Key Tags You Write On
Paper key tags do one job: they tell you which key is which. Write the unit number or the address on the tag, and anyone who picks up that key knows what it opens. When the tenant moves out or the listing closes, you write a new tag and throw the old one away.
These are key identification tags in their simplest form. Cardstock with a reinforced hole and room to write. That is also why they are sold by the box: a key tag is a consumable, not a keepsake. An office managing a few hundred units goes through them steadily, which is why the refill inserts and the blank tags carry their own part numbers here.
What Is In This Category

Who Uses Them
Real estate runs one tag per unit. Automotive runs one tag per job. Car key tags ride with the vehicle from write-up to pickup, so a service advisor can match a key to the right repair order without opening every drawer, and either way the tag gets replaced when the work closes.
- Property management companies, apartment and condo offices
- Real estate brokerages and agents running listings and lockboxes
- HOAs and community associations

Anywhere one person hands a key to another person and both need to be sure it is the right one.
Paper or Plastic
The plastic versions on this page are still paper key tags. The plastic is a carrier that protects a printed paper insert, and the insert is what you replace. If you want a tag that lasts for years instead of a tenancy, look at engraved hotel and motel key tags or soft vinyl key tags instead.
